Roger Federer will make his long-awaited return to the ATP tennis tour in Doha this week. The Swiss has been off the tour for 13 months since last year’s Australian Open semi final defeat to Novak Djokovic. He underwent two surgeries on his right knee and decided to give the 2020 season a complete miss. Surprisingly Federer has decided to ditch his partnership with Nike footwear. This partnership goes back to the start of his career. The Swiss and On Running a Swiss company have collaborated to produce a pair of top secret new tennis shoes for Roger which will be debuted at the Doha tournament tournament. Roger can be seen in the airport just before he departs for Doha. In the video he states its the first time in over a year he has travelled for a tournament.
Of course Roger left Nike sportswear several years ago at Wimbledon 2018. The Swiss appeared with Uniqlo gear in his first round match at the All England Championships. In recent times he has worn Uniqlo clothing and his regular Nike Zoom Vapor X shoes. Once this partnership collaboration was signed with On Running a few years ago it was always on the cards. Roger helped design casual shoes initially called the Roger, the Centre Court and this looks like it could be the first performance tennis shoe collaboration.

Federer debuts the Roger Pro in Doha
In Roger’s first match for 405 days he played Daniel Evans in Doha. He played with his usual Uniqlo gear but this time had his latest On Running Shoes with him. These shoes are called the Roger Pro and unfortunately will not be available for sale. Roger showed glimpses of his brilliance in a match of 2 hours and 20 minutes in duration.
