It was announced today that Roger Federer will return to clay court action in Madrid. The Swiss 20 time grand slam champion has opted out of the clay court season the last two years. Federer has avoided the clay to be fresh for the grass court season and his best chance of grand slam success. Shortly after his fourth round defeat at the hands of Stefanos Tsitispas in the Australian Open Roger made the announcement that he would be playing the clay season this year.
Feliciano Lopez Mutua Madrid Tournament director made the announcement on twitter.
