Herzogenaurach, January 8, 2021 – Today, adidas reveals the PRIMEBLUE x HEAT.RDY tennis collection for SS21, combining adidas’ latest sustainability and performance innovations to integrate more recycled materials than ever before in an adidas tennis collection. Featuring streamlined silhouettes and a color palette inspired by the host city of the first major tournament of 2021, apparel and footwear pieces will be worn on court by some of the world’s best tennis players this season.
The full apparel range, including the sleeveless shirt, 2-in-1 shorts, and tennis dress, has been created with high-performance recycled materials. PRIMEBLUE is made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic – upcycled plastic waste which has been intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing it from polluting the ocean. Integrated recycled materials within all pieces make the SS21 range adidas’ most sustainable tennis collection yet, part of the brand’s wider commitment to completely phase out the use of virgin polyesters by 2024.

Visualizing clean water, the apparel design is inspired by the nuances of the ocean, combined with a unique color palette of off-white, deep blues and greens, and accents of vibrant yellow, to be worn by world-class players including Garbiñe Muguruza, Angelique Kerber and Stefanos Tsitsipas as they take to the world stage.
To equip athletes for the heat, the PRIMEBLUE fabrics in the collection are complemented with HEAT.RDY – an advanced lightweight fabric which maximizes airflow and keeps players feeling cool on the court. Designed for rapid sweat distribution, HEAT.RDY material also wicks away moisture to keep athletes feeling dry and ready to perform in hot climates.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, elite tennis player, commented: “Tennis is a game that requires 110% focus and you can’t have any distractions, which becomes even more essential when you’re set to face one of the hottest tournaments of the season. As we prepare for the first challenge of the year, it’s important that I have the very best performance wear to combat both the heat and to help me perform at my very best.”
The apparel performance wear is complemented by updated footwear silhouettes in the latest ‘Solar Yellow’ colorway, complimenting the yellow tones featured in the collection.
Players including Stefanos Tsitsipas and Angelique Kerber will wear the recently launched adizero Ubersonic 4, which brings the latest technologies to the court for uncompromising agility, enabling players to respond to a game that’s faster now than ever. The midsole features Lightstrike, which provides super-light cushioning for fast pace movements without compromising direct court feel. A woven mesh upper provides stability and support for lateral movements and changes of direction, and is layered on top of a breathable, comfortable knitted sock construction. The upper is made with PRIMEGREEN – a series of high-performance recycled materials, created from 50% recycled content.
The PRIMEBLUE x HEAT.RDY tennis collection is set to be worn by elite players, in Australia from February 8, 2021 and is available from today on adidas.co.uk/tennis and via the adidas app. To join the conversation, follow @adidasTennis on Instagram and using #EndPlasticWaste.
