Continuing the fight to end plastic waste and protect the world’s oceans,  adidas  today  launches  the  adidas x Parley Tennis Collection. Building  on  adidas’  long- standing legacy of using the first tennis grand slam of the season as an awareness platform for ocean plastic, the collection is set to be worn by two world-class athletes who share the brand’s passion for protecting our planet; Kristina Mladenovic and Dominic Thiem.

With five years of a sustained and growing commitment to the fight against ocean plastic, launching first at the UN, now reaching a milestone in creating its 30 millionth shoe under the Parley partnership, p 1 is continuing to build on these efforts. The collection aims to use the world’s eyes on Australia’s premier tennis tournament, to shine a light on the nearby Great Barrier Reef – the largest living organism on the planet facing threat from coastal waste – to raise audience awareness, drive conversation, and action around this precious ecosystem in urgent need of protection from marine plastic pollution.

Carly Tatibouet, VP Design for adidas Tennis said: “In our industry, we’re well versed in creating and designing products for the world’s leading athletes. But now, more than ever, we must also consider the athletes  of  tomorrow with  the  pieces we  make  today.  Not  only are we  focussing  on  developing  and introducing innovations that reduce our overall carbon footprint – specifically the use of virgin plastics – we’re also looking at how we can visually raise awareness with our designs too. This collection in particular puts a spotlight on the impact of plastic waste on the Great Barrier Reef as we continually adjust our creative journey to ensure we are questioning, challenging and progressing everything we do, for the good of the planet.”

A bold, data-driven graphic map of the Great Barrier Reef, which was created by the adidas design team, features on each piece in the new collection. Made with Parley Ocean Plastic – upcycled plastic waste which has been intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing  it  from  polluting  the ocean  –  the  collection  showcases  adidas and  Parley’s  continued commitment to end plastic waste and protect the oceans.

Inspired by the natural environment to create a stripped back ocean aesthetic, pieces in the collection have been designed with a utilitarian style to create a more uniform approach to the protection of the ocean. Against a backdrop of black, white, and grey materials to limit the use of unsustainable dying methods, accents of ice green and the coastal map pattern of the endangered area complete the eye- catching design of the collection.

Completing  the  distinctive  look,  Kristina Mladenovic  will  wear  the  new  adidas x Parley adizero Ubersonic   4   footwear   silhouette,   which   introduces   fresh   technologies   to   the   court   for uncompromising  agility; enabling  players  to  respond  to  a game  that’s faster  now  than ever.  The midsole  features  Lightstrike,  which  provides  super-light  cushioning  for  fast  paced  movements without compromising direct court feel. A woven mesh upper provides stability and support for lateral movements and changes of direction, and is layered on top of a breathable, comfortable knitted sock construction.

To be worn by Dominic Thiem, the collection also introduces the adidas x Parley SoleCourt, featuring a TPU chassis, midfoot torsion bar, BOOST midsole, and 3D heel counter for maximum durability, stability, and comfort.

The adidas x Parley collection supplements the PRIMEBLUE x HEAT.RDY Tennis Collection, which launched  in the first week  of  the  new year. For  the first time, the full  range is made with high- performance recycled materials, including PRIMEBLUE – made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic.
