At the outset of the French Open, the tennis world was in consensus that this would be the most open French Open in years. Sure Justine 4 time winner was back but she is still a work in progress and not the same player that won 4 titles a few years ago. Looking down at the rest of the field, no single player has been able to dominate like a Nadal or a Federer. We have seen patches of brilliance from a host of ladies, Wozniacki, Dementieva, Jankovic, Sharapova and of course the Williams, but none have really put their hands up as contenders for the crown. So we find ourselves with two first time grand slam finalists, one who has been the form player of 2010 and the other who has been the form player of 2010. Who will win?!
Well due to my total lack of knowledge of either player and keen not to get a big prediction wrong. Id say it could go to three but Sam Stosur should come out on top. She has faced better players in this tournament than Francesca Schiavone and is totally at home on Chatrier. She has made the semis at least of her last 5 tournaments and with confidence coursing through her veins she should emerge victorious. It will be no doubt a cagey affair, two first timers in a final, the showpiece occasion of the clay court year. This is close as Schiavone will get to a home grandslam final so surely she will feel the pressure too. Without wanting to sit on the fence, the favourite and form player is Stosur, she should win, Schiavone of course could win but we will know come 4 pm tomorrow!
